Growing up, I was convinced that some people were simply born understanding math and science, and the rest of us were just memorizing our way through. I spent a lot of years certain I was in the second group.
Then I had a realization. I started to see that the people who “got it” weren’t smarter — they’d just had someone explain the concept clearly, and for me, that clicked.
It was less about talent. It was about understanding — and understanding can be taught.
That realization changed how I saw learning, and Story Problem grew out of it. The name is a nod to that ubiquitous teaching tool in math and science — the “story problem” — and I wanted to reclaim the term: for the people who struggled to understand it, and for the ones who quietly loved the challenge of working each one out.
Every episode uses a real story to teach a genuine math or science idea, with none of the anxiety, prerequisites, or “you should already know this” that built the barriers the first time. It’s for parents helping kids with schoolwork, for anyone who’s ever felt behind, and for the math and science lovers out there.
